Who
I'm Sharath Nair. A broadcast journalist, mostly television, known mostly for covering technology & automobiles but I've done my fair share of "beta, are you safe?" stories. Oh, & I have heavy quirks for breakfast, lots of idiosyncrasies for lunch, light learning for dinner & then generous servings of wit & humour as day-long snacks.
Even though I have stepped away from journalism & content as a verb on 1st April this year. But stepping away from it as a noun? That's not possible. So in the recharge-break, I built a company instead.
iSHARATH Labs. Basically, Isha + Sharath, my 2-year-old niece and me.
Why
My Eechoo Peechoo lives some 2100 kilometres away from me. & she's growing up so fast. I video call her every day & a new animal, a new song, sometimes even a new planet comes up everyday. & even though I learned her language, the names of all her imaginary friends, all her choreography, but the distance is real. I don't want to be in a different city, working 360 days every year to meet her for 5. So I decided to build something in her name, & bloody make it grand, so she knows what responsible abundance is. Actually it's not just selflessly for her, but it's selfishly for me too. Eventually, I will make enough money to fund the things I loudly care about, visual arts, wildlife conservation, environmentalism, the causes that need telling but don't get the audience & attention anytime. Which is why this isn't just about side hustles or passive income or whatever that phrase means. It's about abundance. Real abundance. The kind that will give me the freedom to cause real change, one that only comes when I won't have to choose between survival and meaning.
My niece loves dancing. I'm building so the music never stops.
What
I build apps. Seemingly simple ones. But for deeply niche problems.
Most would say "simple" means dumbed down. But I truly believe products & solutions should be highly dumb in operability, but deeply gratuitous in purpose, brilliant in execution, insanely ethical in intent & marvellously fore-planned for long term sustenance. And I'm actually just one person. iSHARATH Labs is a Sole Proprietorship, no partners sullying my groove, no investors breathing down my neck, no board telling me to monetise faster by pivoting to chase the shiny thing. I built
It's slower this way. But it's meaningful this way. It's also honest this way.
When
June 2026. Just started. But Isha was born on 18th October, so I'll be lying hereon.
